Our Mission

Afripolo’s mission is to develop and advance water polo across Africa

Our team will:

  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within water polo to create a culture where individual differences are respected and all are treated equally, receiving the same opportunities for growth and advancement.

  • Partake in activities which promote, foster, encourage, and provide facilities for the sport of water polo in Africa, by providing resources and up-skilling players, coaches, referees and other participants.

  • Control, manage and be responsible for the organisation, promotion, and administration of its own water polo clinics and tournaments, that will not be associated with those of Swimming South Africa, or any other governmental body.

  • Draft teams to within South Africa or internationally, and arrange visits to South Africa from overseas water polo teams.

  • Arrange and participate in water polo tournaments and tours both within and across Africa and overseas.

  • Promote, provide for, and manage all details and arrangements that benefit water polo players and anyone else who is engaged in or associated with the sport.

  • Develop and provide course material and continued educational and training points for coaches and referees, in addition to executing other activities to promote the sport.

  • Facilitate the accreditation and grading of all coaches and referees.

  • Co-ordinate and facilitate the development of water polo in Africa with a view to fostering good relations among all the sport’s participants.

  • Develop and operate a program that focuses on children, and teaches water safety, water orientation, and survival skills as well as basic stroke development.

  • Establish water polo as an activity that not only promotes the health and safety of all participants, but one that respects the principles of fair play, and is free from any and all performance-enhancing drugs.

  • Strive for sportsmanship and professionalism in the game of water polo and instill principles of transparency and ethical standards in the players, team officials, and administrators. We will also strongly advocate the ban of doping, age fraud, sexual harassment, and all other forms of inequality and discrimination within the sport.

  • Co-operate with all relevant international, supra-national, and national bodies in all matters relating to competitions and the laws of the game of water polo.

  • Promote the exposure of water polo via mainstream and social media whether via local or overseas-based platforms.
